Africa Chalet in Switzerland

2025

The collaboration between artist Victor Ekpuk and creative entrepreneur Nachson Mimram resulted in a stunning fusion of West African visual heritage and Swiss alpine luxury. Located within Mimram’s ""Africa Chalet"" in Gstaad, the project features a site-specific, immersive installation that transforms a private, state-of-the-art bowling alley into a total work of art. By enveloping the recreational space in his signature graphic style, Ekpuk bridges the gap between high-tech modern architecture and ancient cultural narratives.

The installation is defined by Ekpuk’s use of Nsibidi-inspired scripts, where lyrical lines and dense symbols flow across the walls to create a rhythmic, sacred atmosphere. This ""script"" dissolves the boundaries between writing and visual art, allowing the ancestral power of the symbols to interact with the sleek, contemporary environment of the chalet. Ultimately, the space recontextualizes the traditional alpine experience, inviting guests to participate in a cultural dialogue where indigenous knowledge and modern play coexist.
